Ingredients
4 cups whole wheat flour
1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons of baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups buttermilk (full fat)
Directions
Preheat oven to 400F
Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl
Add buttermilk to make dough soft
Dust work surface with whole wheat flour
Place dough on surface and knead lightly until smooth
Form dough into a circle that is approx 1 1/2 inch thick
Take a knife and place a deep X across the whole piece of dough
Bake for about 45 minutes until brown and bread sounds hallow when tapped from bottom
Cool on a wire rack
Note: For a softer crust wrap the bread in a kitchen towel while cooling
